Welcome to The East Midlands Koi Club

Welcome to the The East Midlands Koi Club, aka the EMKC, the official section of the British Koi Keepers Society (BKKS) for the East Midlands Region.  The EMKC has been running for many years now, but it is only recently that the club really started to make a name for itself in the koi world, thanks to the hard work and dedication of it's current members and committee.  We consider ourselves to be very much a growing club that welcomes koi keepers of every level in the hobby to come along and join in at any of our events.  We have gained a repuatiuon for be a young, vibrant, friendly and up and coming club that is always pushing the hobby forward in everything that we do. This was recognised in 2009 when we were voted Koi Club of the year by readers of Koi Magazine.

Club meetings are held on the last Wednesday of every month at the Clock Warehosue in Shardlow - Derbyshire, where we invite along some of the biggest names in the hobby to provide talks and presentations.  During the summer months we adopt a more informal style, holding our meetings at members' houses and viewing their ponds for a relaxing evening of chat between friends. With organised events, a monthly newsletter, guest speakers, trips, open ponds, general chat, interclub sales, advice, health care, an annual photo show and of course hosting the Winter Koi Show, there's no better club to be a part of.

30th May 2012 - Open Pond Night at EMKC member Tom Tebbutts pond
19:30 for a 20:00 start

The first of the open pond nights see's us heading over to the Nottingham to the home of Tom Tebbutt (well his parents home actually!) where his magnificent 16,000 gallon pond resides. Tom also has a fabulous indoor set up for growing on koi too. Don't expect to see quality Go-Sanke varieties here though, this man is all about the BROWN! Yes that's right, Tom's favorite variety is Chagoi and anything single colour that grows big. So say it's because he hasn't got a clue what he's doing when picking koi, others think it's because they look like the stuff he spends hours on trying to pull out of the lakes and ponds of Britain. Whatever the reason, one thing is for sure, Tom knows a good Chag when he see's one!

Don't forget to bring refreshments along (aka beer, wine and cider) but tea and coffee will be provided. See you all there, let's just hope this lousy weather goes away in time and we get a bit of sunshine.

2012 Grow & Show - Sakuma Kohaku

"There is not much time left to get yourself a quality kohaku, along with being a part of a great club competition where you can show what you can do and test your skills alongside your fellow club members."

If you are intending entering this competition then please let me know as the draw for the selection times will be taking place soon.

Here’s your chance to have a bit of fun showing your koi keeping skills, whilst also obtaining a quality koi as part of the experience. Why not pit your skills and knowledge against your fSakukaKohakuellow club members?

Following the success of recent Grow and Show competitions the club has decided to run another one again this year. We have secured 22 Sakuma Kohaku for this competition, please see the photo at end of this message.

The date for choosing and taking the fish home will be 21st April, and the order of choosing the fish will be determined by a draw of names. Each person will be allowed to select 3 fish to be bowled in order to choose their fish for the competition.

The cost for each fish is £110.
Prizes (provided we sell 20 fish) are:
1st: £500
2nd: £100
3rd: £50
In the event that we do not sell 20 fish the prize allocations will be adjusted accordingly.

The presentation and results will be during the EMKC meeting in September 2013 (full details will be circulated nearer the time).

This competition is open to current EMKC members only.

Please could you let me know, using the following email address:
